Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense Said All Ships Sailing to Russian Ports Would Be Considered to Be Carrying Military Cargo

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine will count all ships traveling in the Black Sea to Russian ports and ports in Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories carrying military cargo “with all the associated risks.”

With such a warning, the department responded to a similar statement by the Russian Ministry of Defense. The Ukrainian ministry also banned navigation in the areas of the northeastern part of the Black Sea and the Kerch-Yenikal Canal.

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry said that by threatening ships and shelling peaceful cities, the Kremlin has turned the Black Sea into a danger zone, primarily for Russian ships.

“Responsibility for all risks lies entirely with the Russian leadership. The fate of the Moskva cruiser proves that the Ukrainian Defense Forces have the necessary means to repel Russian aggression at sea,” the statement said.

On July 17, the Russian authorities announced their withdrawal from  the grain deal , explaining this decision by the fact that the conditions that Russia insisted on were not met under the agreement. After that, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kiev could continue grain supplies through the Black Sea corridor without Russia’s participation.

On July 19, against the backdrop of Russia’s withdrawal from the grain deal, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation actually declared all ships sailing along the Black Sea to the ports of Ukraine as military targets, and the countries under whose flags these ships would fly were participants in the war from Kiev.
