Nacho & Tequila Festival Makes its Debut in the Houston Heights

Nacho bites and tequila tastings are coming to the Heights.

Houston (Houston Food Finder), May 13 (14.05) Food & Vine Time Productions, the company behind many annual festivals, including the upcoming Woodlands Wine & Food Week and the Katy Sip N Stroll, is bringing its Nach-Yo Ordinary Tequila Tasting Tour to the Heights. It’s on Saturday, May 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Domain Heights, a luxury apartment community. Tickets start at $45 and can be purchased online. The event started as part of Food & Vine Time’s Brewmasters Craft Beer Festival in Galveston, made its debut as a standalone event in Katy in February and headed to The Woodlands in March. Now, it’s the Heights’ turn.

The Heights rendition of the Nach-yo Ordinary Tequila Tasting is hosted at upscale apartment complex Domain Heights.

While the experience is named for nachos and tequila, tastings will cover the breadth of agave spirits, including mezcal and sotol. Even just the tequila varieties will run the gamut: gold, silver, reposado, añejo and extra-añejo. Participating spirits producers include Siempre, Bribon, Corralejo Tequila, Desert Door, Don Julio, Dos Hombres, El Tesoro, Ghost Tequila, Lalo, Los Arango, Maestro Dobel, Mijenta, Milagro, Tres Agaves and Veneno. Even the biggest agave spirit fan needs a palate break every once in a while, so there will also be Delirium Belgium beer, as well as a Beso del Sol Sangria Station.

The Nach-Yo Ordinary Tequila festival features all kinds of agave spirits and food from local restaurants.

H-E-B is providing the nachos by way of a gourmet food bar stocked with tortilla chips, guacamole, spicy meat selections and other toppings. Local restaurants are also serving small bites, including:

VIP ticket holders get to pre-game from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. courtesy of an exclusive penthouse party at Domain Height’s Sky Lounge — which offers a great view of the Heights. As of press time, VIP tickets were still available for $75 each.

On-time arrival is recommend for those who want to learn more about tequila. El Tesoro Tequila brand ambassador Tyler Wang is hosting a complimentary Translating Tequila Seminar. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis, and Wang will take guests through a formal tasting to compare different types of tequila.

Additionally, one attendee is going to walk away with a big prize. The Party Wagon Raffle offers a prize package worth over $1,000, and it includes tequila, other bar essentials and swag. All of the money raised from raffle entries is going to Second Chances Network Inc. According to a press release, the organization fights the effects of poverty in countries such as India. It raises money for clean water wells, supports trade education, such as animal husbandry and sewing, and helps fund 20 orphanages with close to 2,000 children and youths.
